Sofia Mangalam

Sofia Mangalam has extensive work experience in the field of urban planning and development. Sofia currently holds the position of Community Development Director at the City of Foster City, a role they have held since February 2023. Prior to this, they served as the Planning Director for the Town of Los Altos Hills from November 2021 to January 2023. Sofia also has experience as a Planning Manager at the City of Foster City from April 2020 to November 2021.

Before their time at the City of Foster City, Sofia worked at the City of Newark, California, where they held the position of Senior Planner from January 2019 to April 2020, and as an Associate Planner from June 2016 to January 2019. Sofia also gained industry experience as a Principal at Studio SSA, llc from February 2016 to December 2017.

Earlier in their career, Sofia worked as a City Planner II at the New York City Department of Transportation from August 2015 to January 2016, and as a Zoning Specialist at the NYC Department of City Planning from March 2014 to July 2015. Sofia also held the role of Planner at Perkins Eastman from February 2012 to August 2013, and worked as a Professional Planner at Greenberg Farrow from July 2007 to February 2012.

Sofia's earliest experience in the field was as a Landscape Architect at Lewis Scully Gionet, Inc., where they began their career in 2006.

From 1999 to 2003, they attended Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha University and earned a Bachelor's degree in Architecture.

In 2003 to 2004, they pursued their Master's degree in Urban Design at Edinburgh College of Art.

Most recently, from 2019 to 2020, they attended Leadership Academy Alameda County and obtained a certificate in Leadership.
