Makoto Kosai graduated from the University of Tokyo (Department of Aerospace Engineering) and started his career at Kawasaki Heavy Industries. He then received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Washington. Mr. Kosai focused on research funded by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Mr. Kosai joined the Boeing Company in 1996. At the Boeing Company, Mr. Kosai was a senior specialist engineer and was in charge of developing the algorithms on how to prevent aircraft’s primary components such as the fuselage, wings, stabilizers, and pressure bulkheads from structural failure based on Fracture Mechanics and Finite Element Analyses validated by tests and fleet data. Mr. Kosai retired from the Boeing Company in June 2020 after 40 years as a distinguished aerospace engineer.
