Zhiyong Chen

Zhiyong Chen is a Senior Scientist at FPInnovations since July 2015, previously serving as a Scientist. Research interests focus on advanced multidisciplinary numerical simulation of wood-based products, timber connections, and building systems. Zhiyong is also a Faculty Associate and External Graduate Faculty at the University of Maine since September 2020. Prior experience includes roles as a Research Scientist and Engineer at the University of New Brunswick from February 2012 to July 2015, contributing to various projects including the development of design guidelines for light wood frame structures. Additional experience includes a Visiting Scholar position at FPInnovations and a Research Assistant role at Vestas, along with academic teaching in structural wood design. Educational qualifications include a Ph.D. in Structural Engineering, a Master's degree in Structural Engineering, and a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, all from Harbin Institute of Technology.
