Ulf Ackelid 🇸🇪

Principal Scientist and Co-Founder at Freemelt AB

Ulf Ackelid is an experienced scientist and engineer with a focus on materials and processes in additive manufacturing. Ulf co-founded Freemelt AB in 2017, where they currently hold the role of Principal Scientist. At Freemelt, Ulf is responsible for innovation and development of open-source electron beam additive manufacturing technology, tailored for research and development purposes. The machines produced by Freemelt help the global R&D community in developing new powders, materials, and processing algorithms for additive manufacturing.

Prior to their current role, Ulf worked at Arcam AB from 2002 to 2016 as a Senior Scientist in Materials and Processes. There, they played a key role in innovation and was a member of the patent board. Their focus was on developing powders, materials, and processes for additive manufacturing of complex metal parts using Electron Beam Melting (EBM). Ulf worked with various materials, including titanium alloys, cobalt-chromium, titanium aluminide, and nickel superalloys.

Ulf's early work experience includes a position at ABB Corporate Research from 1996 to 2002 as an R&D Engineer in Materials. In this role, they conducted failure analysis, material investigations, and material R&D in collaboration with domestic and international ABB customers. Ulf was also responsible for managing the materials laboratory and had expertise in Scanning Electron Microscopy.

Overall, Ulf Ackelid has a strong background in additive manufacturing, with extensive experience in materials, processes, and innovation.

Ulf Ackelid 🇸🇪 completed their education at Linköping University, where they obtained a PhD in Applied Physics. The duration of their studies at the university is unknown.
