Samantha Black has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Samantha worked as a Designer/Project Director at Freemodel starting in August 2022. Before that, they were the Head Of Design at Freemodel from January 2021 to August 2022. Samantha also has experience as the Director of Design at Samantha Black Design Studio since June 2018. Prior to that, they were the Design Lead at Made Renovation from August 2019 to March 2021, where they were responsible for creating visual designs and overseeing the entire design process. Samantha also worked as a Project Manager at dba. CODA from September 2018 to September 2019, where they conducted research and aided in the design of a modular multi-family housing project. Samantha took a research sabbatical from January 2011 to October 2015 to extend their Ph.D. research on sacred space circumambulation patterns. Samantha previously held positions at the University of Birmingham as an Exhibition Manager & Head Curator from September 2007 to June 2008, at Pottery Barn as a Client Relations Manager & Team Lead from March 2006 to September 2007, at West Elm as a Visual Team & Client Relations Manager from March 2005 to March 2006, and at Williams-Sonoma, Inc. as a Department Manager & Department Training Lead from October 2002 to March 2005. In these roles, they gained experience in various aspects of design, project management, customer service, and team leadership.
Samantha Black has a diverse education history. Samantha attended Hillcrest Lutheran Academy from 1999 to 2001, but it is unknown whether they obtained a degree or studied a specific field during that time. After completing high school, Samantha pursued higher education and earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) degree in Humanities/Humanistic Studies from the University of Washington between 2001 and 2005. Following their undergraduate studies, they furthered their education at the University of Birmingham where they obtained a Master of Philosophy degree in Art and Architectural History from the College of Arts and Law, graduating in 2009.
In addition to their formal education, Samantha has also obtained various certifications. These include a LEED Green Associate certification from USGBC - National Capital Region Chapter in November 2018, a YTT 500 certification as a Yoga Instructor in May 2017, and a Designated Manuscript Researcher Certificate from Library Special Collections, University of Birmingham in January 2008. Samantha is also currently pursuing a LEED AP Homes certification from the USGBC - National Capital Region Chapter.
