Julie Mallon

Lead Data Scientist at FreightWaves

Julie Mallon is the lead data scientist at FreightWaves. Julie has over two years of experience in the transportation industry, with a focus on data science.

Julie started their career at Choptank Transport, a Hub Group Company, in January 2021. Julie was responsible for platform migration of data science products project end-to-end. Julie also managed a team of analysts responsible for creating interactive visual dashboards using R Shiny, Java, and Power BI. In addition, Julie led independent research on supply chain optimization and calculated customer shares of carbon emissions across complex LTL loads.

In June 2022, Julie joined FreightWaves as the lead data scientist. In this role, they are responsible for writing and maintaining automated reports for customers, sales representatives, and executives using R, Python, SQL, mongoDB, APIs, and cron. Julie also writes and deploys APIs for developer integration and creates new shapefiles of KMAs from geospatial data. In addition, Julie creates bots to recommend better fitting carriers to carrier sales representatives.

Julie Mallon has a PhD in Biology/Biological Sciences, General from the University of Maryland, an MS in Wildlife Biology from West Virginia University, and a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology from Boston University. Julie also has certification from LinkedIn in Google Universal Analytics Essential Training (2020) and Azure: Understanding the Big Picture, as well as certification from The CIRTL Network in Engaging Students in the Teaching of Statistics.

They are on a team with Adam Roach - Senior Data Scientist, Brad Hill - Senior Data Scientist, and David Whiting - Senior Data Scientist. Their manager is Ray Boaz, Director of Data Science.
