James Sutherland is an experienced communications professional currently serving as the International Communications Coordinator at Friends-International since May 2009. Prior to this role, James worked as a Programme Officer at Mines Advisory Group from 2006 to 2009. James started their career in education as an Elementary Music Teacher at Northbridge International School, followed by roles focused on youth participation and social inclusion at Highland Council from 1999 to 2005. Additionally, James has a background as a self-employed musician, working as a singer-songwriter from 1972 to 1999. James holds educational credentials from the University of Highlands and Islands in Scotland and Thurso High School.

Friends-International
Friends-International works with marginalised urban children and youth, their families and communities to become functional, productive citizens of their country. To achieve this, Friends-International builds best practice services for marginalized children and youth to save lives and build futures (Friends Alliance), which are supported by strong business models (Friends Vocational Training Businesses). We are only effective if we work in partnership with other organizations (ChildSafe Alliance) and we need to involve everyone in the communities and society to protect children (ChildSafe Movement). We now run and support projects in Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Indonesia, Myanmar and Switzerland.
