Michael Shaghafi

Michael Shaghafi has extensive work experience in the field of chemistry and pharmaceutical research. Michael has held various roles throughout their career, starting in 2001 as an Undergraduate Researcher at UC Davis. Michael then worked as a Research Associate at Celera Genomics before joining UC Irvine as a Graduate Student and later as a Postdoctoral Researcher.

In 2013, Shaghafi joined eFFECTOR Therapeutics, Inc. as a Scientist I, specializing in Medicinal Chemistry. After three years, they moved to Abide Therapeutics as a Research Scientist. In 2018, Shaghafi joined MBS Synthesis and Design as a Consultant in Synthetic and Medicinal Chemistry.

Currently, Shaghafi is employed at Frontier Medicines. Michael first joined the company in 2019 as a Senior Scientist and has since been promoted to Associate Director and currently holds the role of Director, Innovation and Discovery Chemistry.

Michael Shaghafi earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of California, Davis, where they studied from 2001 to 2003. Michael went on to pursue a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry at UC Irvine, completing their doctoral studies from 2005 to 2011.
