John Kary has a diverse work experience spanning over two decades. John started their career in 1999 as the owner of Kary Software LLC, where they focused on custom application development for various industries such as biomedical research, higher education, real estate, and trucking/transportation. John emphasized the use of modern open-source libraries and tools, implementing industry best practices like automated testing, continuous integration, automated deployment, and collaborative version control workflows.
In 2004, John joined The University of Kansas and took on the role of Lead Developer at the Applied English Center, where they helped foreign students pass English proficiency exams before enrolling in university classes. Later, they became the Senior Programmer and Technical Lead of an eight-person team, responsible for developing custom web applications, department websites, and the KU CMS. John'swork positively impacted over 28,000 students and 10,000 staff members.
In 2013, John joined the Stowers Institute for Medical Research as a Programmer Analyst III. John served as a technical leader in a small team of ten, contributing to the development of a custom internal web application called LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System). John'swork supported the laboratory science efforts of biomedical scientists and staff at the institute.
More recently, in 2022, John became a part of Fund That Flip, Inc., initially working as a Staff Software Engineer for the SaaS product FlipperForce.com. After the acquisition of FlipperForce.com by Fund That Flip, John took on the role of Head of Engineering for FlipperForce. In this position, they are responsible for leading the engineering team and overseeing the development of the platform, which provides fast, convenient, and affordable capital for experienced real estate investors.
