Kalai Wineland has a diverse work experience spanning over several years. Starting in 1990 at The Boeing Company, Wineland worked as an engineer managing projects and supporting the manufacturing rate and maintenance of the delivered fleet. They were also selected for a special assignment to work with an overseas vendor to reduce rejection rates on 737 wing trailing edge metal honeycomb wedges.
From 1999 to 2007, Wineland worked at Heller Ehrman as a Senior Intellectual Property Attorney, specializing in patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret litigation. They were involved in all stages of case preparation, including drafting pleadings, motion practice, overseeing discovery responses, and legal research. They also played a crucial role in a successful patent infringement case involving database-related business method claims.
Moving on to Patentique PLLC from 2007 to 2014, Wineland served as a Senior Intellectual Property Attorney, focusing on patent drafting and prosecution. They also conducted due diligence research for potential patent licenses and managed an international biotech company's outside counsel to successfully sell their patent portfolio.
From 2014 to 2019, Wineland worked as a Patent and Litigation Attorney at AMPACC Law Group and Agora Law, LLC. They executed patent prosecution in electrical engineering and related fields, including next-generation semiconductor devices, virtual reality, wireless communication, and software. They had a significant caseload of over 500 cases and served as the First Chair Lead Attorney in a patent infringement matter in the Northern District of Illinois.
Most recently, since 2019, Wineland has been working at Funko as a Senior Counsel, Intellectual Property. They provide strategic advice on intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, copyrights, and trade secrets, utilizing their in-depth understanding of the company's technology, products, and business. They also serve as the principal subject matter expert in protecting the company's intellectual property interests and building value within the IP portfolio.
Kalai Wineland has a Juris Doctor (JD) degree from the Seattle University School of Law. Prior to that, they obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree from Stanford University, majoring in Mechanical Engineering and Biological Sciences. Kalai later pursued further education at Stanford University, where they completed a Master of Science (M.S.) degree in Biological Sciences.
