Director, Field Operations Deployment at GAF Energy

Ashton Thurneyssen has a diverse work experience in the energy industry. They started their career at 1-800-GOT-JUNK? as a Manager, where they were responsible for truck logistics, scheduling, route management, and customer service. They consistently ranked among team leaders in revenue and customer service.

In 2011, they joined SolarCity as a Senior Solar Site Auditor & Home Energy Efficiency Technician. They performed site audits to obtain technical data required to design PV systems, used Solmetric equipment to gather technical specs, and worked with the engineering department to create PV design sets for permitting. They later transitioned to the role of Field Designer, where they were selected for a pilot program combining the roles of PV designer and site surveyor. They used CAD software to design plan sets for PV systems on site and received training on design, inverter sizing, tie-in, and local codes. They then became a Project Manager, overseeing the pre-construction work necessary for PV system installations. They evaluated competitive bids, created purchase orders, and approved invoices. In 2014, they were promoted to Regional Operations Manager, overseeing an operations center with 50+ employees and managing various teams involved in the installation process. They also opened SolarCity's Atwater Village, CA, office.

After SolarCity, Ashton Thurneyssen joined Tesla in 2017 as an Operations Manager, leading PV, Powerwall, and EV charging operations in Goleta to Burbank, CA. They consistently ranked among the company's top operations centers for efficiency and quality and managed the rollout of pilot programs for new Tesla products. In 2019, they became the Senior Manager of the Southeast Region, responsible for leading PV, Powerwall, EV charging, and service operations from Florida to New Jersey. They managed 800+ installers and support staff and regularly led the region in terms of quality and efficiency. They also oversaw an operational analytics team, creating programs for install incentives, providing analytics education to managers, and reporting on capacity and throughput. In 2020, they were promoted to Senior Manager of Solar Roof, where they directed 1,800 installers and 200 support staff installing the Solar Roof product nationwide. They doubled the headcount in two quarters while improving efficiency by 40% and consistently grew monthly throughput and installations.

Currently, Ashton Thurneyssen is working at GAF Energy as the Senior Manager of Deployment. They started this role in 2021 and are responsible for managing the deployment of GAF Energy's products.

Ashton Thurneyssen attended Ohio University from 2001 to 2005, where they obtained a Bachelor of Science degree. The field of study for their degree is not specified. After a gap of a few years, from 2009 to 2010, Ashton attended Columbia Gorge Community College and earned an Associate of Applied Science degree in Renewable Energy Technology.
