THE COMPANY

PRIMARY EMPLOYMENT OBJECTIVES

The Advanced Design team supports the company’s strategic long-term vision, the product and technology roadmaps, and various product development efforts by providing design directions and creating innovative concepts for the next generation of soldier systems and military protective equipment’s.

As a key member of the Advanced Design Team, the Senior Industrial Designer will be at the forefront of creating the product vision, incorporating new technologies and providing key capabilities to the Warfighter of tomorrow. He/she will provide leadership to other designers and team members toward the design vision and will work closely with engineers and product managers to ensure the design intent is respected throughout the entire product development process.

SPECIFIC ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

People:

  • Implement Design Thinking in our processes, organizing and leading design work sessions and demonstrate human-centered problem solving.
  • Champion the design process by working collaboratively with multi-functional teams
  • Mentors and trains the team members and colleagues as required ensuring the implementation of best design practices.
  • Provide leadership and act as a Subject Matter Expert for Industrial design.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, other stakeholders as required during the design process
  • Liaise with end users, getting insight through interviews and assessments
  • Assist in the coordination of his/her team activities to drive design initiatives forward
  • Find and manage external resources as needed

Process:

  • Actively participate in the entire design process and develop tools to support the different phases

  • Participate in the definition of the design briefs

  • Lead and participate in user interviews, assessments, and observation (shadowing)

  • Search for and explore design trends

  • Define Galvion’s design language and make critical design decisions to ensure consistency throughout our product lines.

  • Lead and participate in brainstorming sessions

  • Demonstrate concepts through sketches, mock-ups and prototypes

  • Translate 2D concepts into 3D models

  • Create 3D realistic images (renderings) and animations

  • Validate designs through user assessments and subject matter experts (SME) evaluations

  • Ensure a smooth transition to product development and that the design intent is respected throughout the entire development process

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Performance:

  • Keep track of the market trends and emerging technologies
  • Bring innovative concepts in response to user needs and technical requirements
  • Take account of technical constraints and limitations to ensure the proposed solutions are aligned with the established product roadmap timeline.
  • Include the product design language, functionality and usability in every proposed solution.

Knowledge, Skill & Experience Requirements

  • Degree in Industrial Design from a recognized school
  • 15+ years of experience in industrial design.
  • Experience working in multidisciplinary teams
  • Exceptional creative problem solving and design skills, including sketching and 3D modeling
  • Proficiency in the use software tools such as SolidWorks, Adobe CC and Keyshot.
  • Experience in Advanced Surface Modeling is a plus

Ability to travel unrestricted (Canada, USA, UK more specifically).
