Leo Karrer

Leo Karrer, M.D. serves as the Senior Country Manager and Head of Covid-19 Vaccine Allocations at Gavi, the Vaccine Alliance, since February 2021, and is notably involved with the Joint Allocation Taskforce within the Office of the Covax Facility. Previously, Karrer held diplomatic roles at the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs, including service at the Permanent Mission of Switzerland to the United Nations in New York and Geneva, and as the Attaché for Political and Legal Affairs at the Embassy of Switzerland in the United States. Karrer's medical career includes positions as a resident and attending physician at various hospitals and as a delegate for the International Committee of the Red Cross in Afghanistan. Karrer holds an Executive Master in International Negotiation and Policy-Making from the Geneva Graduate Institute, a Doctorate in Medicine, and a Swiss Federal Physician's Diploma from the University of Geneva, along with a classical Maturité from Collège Sainte-Croix, Fribourg.
