Juan Diaz Leon

Juan Diaz Leon has a diverse work experience spanning various roles and industries. Juan is currently working as a Technical Director, Europe at GDI since October 2022.

Before joining GDI, Juan worked at CSEM from January 2021 until October 2022, where they held the position of Senior Research and Development Engineer. Prior to that, they served as an R&D Engineer from May 2019 to December 2020, and as a Postdoctoral Researcher from September 2017 to May 2019.

Juan also worked at UC Santa Cruz as a Graduate Student Researcher from July 2013 to June 2017. Juan was responsible for the simulation, growth, and characterization of mesoscopic structures for energy, as well as modeling photonic structures for solar concentration and fabricating multi-cation oxides for photonic and electronic applications. Juan also briefly worked as a Lab Assistant at UC Santa Cruz from January 2013 to June 2013.

Juan gained valuable experience as a Graduate Student Intern at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory from June 2015 to September 2016. Their work focused on designing and optimizing hierarchical antireflection coatings and transparent conductive networks.

Additionally, Juan worked as an Advanced Studies Laboratories (ASL) Student Researcher at NASA Ames Research Center from January 2013 to September 2016. Juan also worked as a Visiting Research Scholar at Hewlett-Packard Laboratories from February 2014 to June 2015 and at Tango Systems from September 2013 to September 2014. At Tango Systems, their work involved physical vapor deposition of metal oxides for energy applications and optical metrology using SEM, TEM, and XRD techniques.

Earlier in their career, Juan worked as a Site Manager at Kaplan in July 2012 and as a Residential Activity Leader at Kaplan in June 2011. Juan also gained experience as an Activity Leader at Sussex Summer Schools from July 2009 to August 2010.
