Today’s health system wasn’t designed to serve the needs of aging patients. In caring for the elderly, providers too often rely on research based on very different populations and training protocols designed for less complex patients. While well intentioned, these practices are as likely to harm as to help — with serious consequences for patients’ wellbeing and quality of life.
