Jose Luis Zaragoza Jr

Mechanical Engineer II at GenMark Diagnostics

Jose Luis Zaragoza Jr has a diverse work experience in engineering and biomedical research. Jose Luis started their career as a Biomedical Engineering Research Intern at Biomechanical Research and Testing, LLC, where they conducted a literature review and created a reference spreadsheet for injury thresholds. Jose Luis also worked as a Medical Image Processing Volunteer at the University of California San Diego, where they processed and analyzed cardiac magnetic resonance images.

At UC San Diego Health, Jose was involved in Biomedical Signal Processing Research, specifically in processing physiologic data from Parkinson's patients. Jose Luis designed and optimized algorithms to extract dominant tremor frequencies using MATLAB and various techniques such as single value decomposition and digital filter design.

Jose then served as a Clinical Bioengineering Intern Practicum at the University of California San Diego, where they observed medical needs and collaborated in designing an improved nCPAP mask for neonatal intensive care units. Jose Luis also gained experience in 3D modeling software.

After that, Jose worked at Namocell as a Mechanical Engineer and later as a Senior Engineer. Jose Luis contributed to product development by creating 3D designs, drawings, and prototypes, performing scientific research and experiments, and presenting conclusions to the team. Jose Luis introduced an electro-mechanical subsystem and developed firmware to automate a cam and follower system. Jose Luis also oversaw the core team involved in manufacturing and quality assurance.

Jose's most recent position was at Wainamics as a Research and Development Engineer. Jose Luis played a crucial role in the development of prototype automated fluidic systems for medical and life science applications. Their responsibilities included architecture definition, system design, analysis, and testing. Jose Luis also collaborated with hardware engineers and generated scripts to support the development process.

Currently, Jose is working as a Mechanical Engineer II at GenMark Diagnostics.

Jose Luis Zaragoza Jr completed their Bachelor of Science degree in Biomedical Engineering (Mechanical) from UC San Diego, where they attended from 2016 to 2019. In addition to their degree, they also obtained certification in SOLIDWORKS: Design for Mechatronics from LinkedIn in March 2020.
