Mary Lucal

Mary Lucal currently serves as the Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at both Wake Forest University and George Mason University, roles held since August and December 2023, respectively. With an extensive background in human resources at the University of Tennessee since February 2006, Mary has held multiple positions including Associate Vice Chancellor for Human Resources, Interim Assistant Vice Chancellor, Director of Employee Relations and Recruitment, Director of Talent Management, Employee Relations Counselor and Senior Trainer, and Employment Counselor. Previous experience includes working as a Human Resources Consultant at Harvard University from March 2001 to August 2005. Mary holds a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Higher Education Administration from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, a Master’s Degree in Human Resources Management from Lesley University, and two Bachelor’s Degrees—one in English Education from The Ohio State University and another in English and Women's Studies from The College of Wooster.
