Tyrone Oliver is an experienced leader in law enforcement and corrections, currently serving as the Commissioner for the Georgia Department of Corrections since January 2023. Prior to this, Oliver held the position of Commissioner at the Georgia Department of Juvenile Justice from July 2019 to January 2023. Oliver's background includes serving as Chief of Police and Deputy City Manager for the City of Social Circle and a Lieutenant at the Brookhaven Police Department. Oliver also has experience as a Criminal Investigations Lieutenant with the Newton County Sheriff's Office and began a career in public service as a Hospital Corpsman in the US Navy. Additionally, Oliver worked as a Funeral Home Assistant before entering law enforcement. Educational qualifications include studies at Columbus State University and Troy University.
