James J. Hudgens, Ph.D., currently serves as Senior Vice President at the Georgia Institute of Technology and as Director of the Georgia Tech Research Institute since September 2019. Previously, James held various leadership roles at Sandia National Laboratories from 2001 to August 2019, including Director of the Threat Intelligence Center, where oversight included Information Operations and Proliferation Assessments for the National Security Program Division. Other notable positions at Sandia include Director of the Information Systems Analysis Center and Senior Manager for Airborne ISR Systems, overseeing significant cybersecurity and Intelligence, Surveillance & Reconnaissance projects. Prior roles at organizations such as Mahi Networks, Raytheon ELCAN Optical Technologies, and Texas Instruments further demonstrate extensive experience in optical networking, advanced manufacturing, and technical engineering. James earned a Ph.D. and a BS in Ceramic Engineering from Iowa State University, completing the doctorate in 1994.
