Abdul Momen

Director, Maintenance & Ops at Georgia State University

Abdul Momen is the current Director of Maintenance and Ops at Georgia State University. Prior to this, they worked as a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, where they developed sorbent materials for the extraction of rare earth elements from ores and lean sources. Abdul also conducted research on next generation solvent (NGS) system for the separation of cesium from legacy nuclear waste.

Before working at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, Abdul Momen was a Postdoctoral Appointee at Argonne National Laboratory, where they conducted research on extractive separation and purification of medical isotope Mo-99. Abdul also developed a pretreatment process for titania (TiO2) beads and employed it for the chromatographic separation and purification of molybdenum-99. Additionally, they conducted research on solvent extraction for recycling enriched 98Mo/100Mo material. Lastly, they developed a unique sample management system for nanoliter to picoliter sample sizes using acoustic levitation to integrate container-free sample environment into hard X-ray experiments.

Abdul Momen graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Abdul also holds a Master of Science in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the University of Dhaka, as well as a Bachelor of Science in Applied Chemistry and Chemical Engineering from the same school.

They work with Russ Seagren - Director, Facilities Planning, Kim Bauer - Senior Director, Design & Construction Services, and Patrick Dukes - Director, Admin Services. Abdul Momen reports to Ramesh Vakamudi, VP, Facilities.
