Tim Hill has a diverse range of work experience. Tim is currently working as a Software Developer at Geoscience Australia, where they are responsible for writing software to collect information from Australia's seismic network and ensure that the National Earthquake Alerts Centre remains available 24/7. Prior to this, Tim took a sabbatical leave and worked as a Stay-at-Home Parent.

Before their sabbatical, Tim worked at x-RD as the Director of ML/AI Engineering and Development. Tim built and ran an AI/ML team focusing on deep learning, computer vision, NLP, search/information retrieval techniques, and IoT. Tim also spent a significant amount of time at Microsoft, where they worked as a Principal Consultant, Senior Consultant, and Consultant. Their work involved providing consulting services to large customers in the Asia Pacific region, building bespoke software solutions, leading teams, and working extensively in the fields of AI/ML, cloud, and DevOps.

Tim's earlier work experience includes roles as a Senior Solutions Engineer and a Sales Engineer at Fast Search & Transfer, and as a Software Engineer at DWSA. Tim also worked as a Developer and Support Engineer at GP Technology Solutions.

Tim Hill's education history begins in 1997 when they started their Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering at UNSW. Tim completed this degree in 2001. After a gap of several years, from 2018 to 2021, Tim pursued a Master's degree with commendation in Applied Data Analytics at The Australian National University.

In addition to their formal education, Tim also obtained several certifications. In November 2019, they completed a course in Statistical Learning from Stanford University. In September 2015, they earned the MS Architecting Azure Solutions (70-534) certification from Microsoft. Prior to that, in November 2012, Tim obtained the Prince 2 Practitioner certification from AXELOS Global Best Practice.
