Andrew Byrnes

Andrew Byrnes began their career in 1997 as a Shareholder at Heller Ehrman, representing clients in computer software and hardware, semiconductor, telecommunications, and Internet technologies in intellectual property and complex commercial litigation. Andrew managed litigation teams of up to 25 and budgets up to $20 million. In 2008, they became a Partner at Covington & Burling LLP, representing technology clients in intellectual property litigation and related matters, and campaigns and companies in political law compliance matters. In 2013, they were appointed Chief of Staff at the USPTO, serving as a politically appointed member of the Senior Executive Service. From 2015 to 2016, they worked as General Counsel, Chief Administrative Officer & Secretary at Shuddle, a pioneering rideshare service designed specifically for busy families. Andrew was responsible for legal matters, regulatory compliance, government relations, public policy and internal operations, including human resources and facilities. Andrew also served as the interim CEO during a three-week transition between CEOs. From 2016 to 2018, they worked as Executive Vice President, General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer at PresenceLearning, a venture-backed telehealth marketplace and SaaS company. Andrew was responsible for legal matters, regulatory compliance, government relations and public policy, human resources, talent acquisition, and learning and development. Andrew built the Legal and People team from 4 siloed employees to a 12-person cross-functional team. From 2018 to 2019, they worked as Senior Legal Director at Uber, providing legal and strategic guidance to business leadership about products and partnerships. Andrew led a team of product and commercial attorneys advising the product managers, engineers, deal makers, and operations specialists driving the core rideshare business. Andrew also served as lead counsel for global expansion of key features and initiatives. In 2021, they became Founder & Lead Adventurer at Adventures In Syncopation. Most recently, they have been working as Deputy General Counsel & Global Head of Public Affairs at Getaround since 2019.

Andrew Byrnes holds a JD from Harvard Law School, graduating magna cum laude. Prior to that, they earned an AB from Stanford University, with honors & distinction and Phi Beta Kappa, in Political Science.
