Cyd La Luz has been working in the software engineering industry since 2014. Cyd began their career with Hot Off The Press as a Software Engineer, where they assisted with a front-end redesign of two of their craft supply vendor sites. Cyd then moved on to BrightBytes in 2014, where they developed a Ruby on Rails data processing application that integrated with R algorithms. In 2015, Cyd joined Dot & Bo as a Software Engineer, where they implemented several PCI compliant payment features and developed APIs for Google Marketplace and Polyvore product feeds, marketing data feeds for email campaigns, and for consumer facing browser-based and iOS applications. In 2016, they worked as a Software Engineer for Goodshop, where they worked on backend features, built all templates, CSS (compiled with SASS), and client side JS, and managed deployments and monitoring. In 2017, Cyd joined Tesla as a Senior Software Engineer, where they worked on a variety of duties from DevOps/Deployments, Backend ETL and Server Architecture, and Client Side software engineering. Cyd then moved on to Providence Health & Services in 2018 as a Senior Software Engineer, and then to Gigster as a Software Engineer, where they worked on remote contracts for large corporations via the Gigster network. In 2019, they joined Facebook as a Software Engineer, and then to Thinkful in 2020 as a Technical Expert/Educator, where they helped maintain curriculum for Thinkful and Bloc (Chegg Inc subsidiaries), mentored students weekly in Web Development and Data Science programming, and ran mock interviews and provided career development resources. Finally, they joined Google in 2020 as a Software Engineer, where they are a backend engineer and technical lead of a cross-team engineering rotation, working primarily in Java with Google frameworks, and developing features related to telephony, streaming and language processing.
Cyd La Luz began their educational journey at Lowell High School from 2002-2006. Cyd then attended Reed College from 2006-2010, where they earned a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) in Sociology and Statistical Analysis. In 2012, they completed a Software Engineering Intensive at Hack Reactor. More recently, they completed a Hackbright Machine Learning Course.
