Yael Elmatad

Yael Elmatad is the VP of Insights at Giphy. Yael has also worked as a Senior Data Scientist at Tapad and as a Postdoctoral/Faculty Fellow at New York University.

Elmatad has extensive experience in data science and analytics. At Tapad, they were the manager of data scientists and analysts across the Analytics and Media Intelligence teams. Yael was also the data science lead on the Analytics team and the technical lead for the Media Intelligence team. Yael was the first data scientist on the engineering team, which has since grown to a dozen members.

Elmatad has also devised graph-based algorithms using Big Data tools (Scalding & Spark) for use in Marketing Technology. During Tapad's acquisition by Telenor in February 2016, Elmatad served as the lead data scientist during the due diligence process.

Before joining Tapad, Elmatad was a Postdoctoral/Faculty Fellow at New York University. There, they used computational methods to study simple physical systems. Specifically, they tried to use high performance computing to study model space parameter optimization.

Yael Elmatad completed a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Physical Chemistry at the University of California, Berkeley. They also have a B.S. in Chemistry, Mathematics, Computer Science, & Hebrew Language & Literature from New York University. Yael Elmatad attended high school at Bergen County Academies and the Recurse Center (formerly known as Hacker School).
