Zhiguo Yu

Zhiguo Yu is a seasoned professional in data science and applied science, currently serving as Senior Manager and Senior Applied Scientist at GitHub since December 2022, focusing on developing Copilot, an AI pair programmer powered by OpenAI Codex. Prior experience includes a role as Senior Applied Scientist at Microsoft from August 2017 to December 2022, where contributions involved query understanding and natural language processing (NLP). Earlier positions include data scientist roles leading teams in machine learning and data mining at Microsoft AI & R, and a predoctoral fellowship at the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas, collaborating with MD Anderson Cancer Center. Zhiguo Yu holds a PhD in Biomedical Informatics from The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, a Master of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Kentucky, and a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from Beijing Institute of Technology.
