Aimée Komugabe-Dixson

Training & Extension Manager at Global Fishing Watch

Aimée leads the development and delivery of Global Fishing Watch’s programme to build capacity in, and transfer technology to national and regional partners. Aimée has a strong interest in improving the management of fisheries through institutional strengthening and increased access to innovative tools such as the datasets and technologies produced by Global Fishing Watch.

Aimée has over a decade of experience in marine science, management, and capacity building. In her previous role as senior advisor in the New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries, Aimée worked with Pacific Island Countries and Territories to strengthen fisheries management frameworks. Aimée led the development and delivery of a fisheries management curriculum for professionals, which includes online and face-to-face components. Aimée has also worked with local communities on climate change adaptation and ecosystem resilience, as well as conducting oceanography and behavioural research through NGOs, intergovernmental agencies and universities. Aimée continues to advise the Government of Tuvalu on inshore fisheries management.

In her spare time, Aimée enjoys swimming, diving, travelling, and a good book or movie. Aimée holds a Doctorate and Honours degree in Marine Biogeochemistry from the Australian National University, as well as Bachelor’s Degrees in Biotechnology and Business from the University of Technology, Sydney.
