Ian Nicholls

Principal Naval Architect at Global Maritime

Ian Nicholls has a range of work experience in the engineering and naval architecture sectors. From 2014 to present, they have worked at Global Maritime, where they held roles as a Principal Naval Architect and Senior Naval Architect/Naval Architect. Their responsibilities included providing consultant support, reviewing documentation, and attending offshore construction vessels. Prior to that, they worked as a Naval Architect at Brookes Bell - Safety at Sea from 2010 to 2013, where they played a key role in a research program on passenger ship evacuation. Ian has also worked as a Freelance Skipper/Instructor/Mate at Self Employed, a Fellow at the Royal Geographical Society, and a First Mate at Ocean Youth Trust Scotland. Ian holds the title of Chartered Engineer at the Engineering Council starting in 2023 and is a Member of the Royal Institution of Naval Architects since 2022.

Ian Nicholls obtained a Master of Engineering degree in Naval Architecture and Small Craft Engineering from the University of Strathclyde from 2004 to 2008.
