Golnar Karimian

Medical Director Clinical Development at Galapagos

Golnar Karimian has a diverse work experience in the medical field. Golnar is currently serving as an Associate Medical Director in Clinical Research at Galapagos since October 2022. Previously, they worked as an Associate Medical Director at HepaRegeniX GmbH from December 2021 to September 2022. Golnar also has experience as a Hepatology and Gastroenterology resident at Maastricht UMC+ from March 2015 to November 2021.

Earlier in their career, they worked as a Post-Doc at the University Medical Center Groningen from February 2012 to February 2015. During this time, they led research projects focusing on the effect of liver resection and the mechanisms of liver regeneration. Golnar also studied the effects of NAFLD/NASH on coagulation and hemostatic status in mice models.

Furthermore, Golnar completed their Ph.D. at the University Medical Center Groningen from December 2007 to February 2012. Golnar'sthesis focused on Signal Transduction Pathways in Hepatocyte Cell Death and the development of new therapeutic targets for chronic liver diseases.

Golnar began their career as an MD at the University of Tehran, where they worked from January 2000 to October 2007.

Golnar Karimian completed their high school education at the National Organization for Development of Exceptional Talents (Sampad) from 1996 to 2000. Golnar then obtained a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Tehran between 2000 and 2007. Karimian pursued their academic journey further at the University Medical Center Groningen, RUG, where they achieved a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Hepatology from 2007 to 2012. Continuing their specialization, they completed a Hepatology and Gastroenterology residency program at Maastricht UMC+ from 2015 to 2021. During this time, they also pursued a Master's degree in Healthcare policy, innovation and management (HPIM) at Maastricht University from 2019 to 2021.
