YUAN CAO, Ph.D.

Manager Assay Development at GNA Biosolutions GmbH

Yuan Cao, Ph.D., has a strong background in assay development and molecular diagnostics. They most recently worked as the Manager of Assay Development at GNA Biosolutions GmbH starting in September 2021. Prior to that, they held the position of Senior Scientist of Assay Development at AGCT GmbH from August 2019 to August 2021.

Yuan's previous experience includes working as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School from January 2016 to July 2019. In this role, they developed molecular in vitro diagnostic assays to detect drug-resistant tuberculosis, including two CE-IVD marked Xpert MTB assays. They led the Rutgers team in developing the Xpert MTB/XDR assay in collaboration with Cepheid Inc.

Before joining Rutgers, Yuan was a Senior Scientist at QIAGEN Suzhou starting in 2013. In this role, they were responsible for developing probe-based isothermal amplification technologies for rapid nucleic acid detection, focused on TB detection. They optimized the TB-HDA assay, evaluated it on over 500 clinical samples, and compared it with other methods. They also optimized the assay for lyophilization and developed QC assays for enzyme activity testing.

Yuan's early career includes research assistant and PhD candidate positions at the University of Edinburgh from 2008 to 2012. Overall, Yuan Cao, Ph.D., has a diverse background in assay development, molecular diagnostics, and research in the field of tuberculosis detection.

Yuan Cao, Ph.D. completed their Bachelor of Science (BSc) degree in Biotechnology from Shaanxi Normal University in 2005. YUAN then pursued a Master of Science (MSc) degree in Cell Biology from the same university, graduating in 2008. Following this, Yuan Cao enrolled at The University of Edinburgh and obtained a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in Medical Genetics in 2012.

In 2018, Yuan Cao began their Master's degree in Public Health at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of London. YUAN is expected to complete this degree in 2023.

In terms of additional certifications, Yuan Cao has obtained several in relevant fields. In 2017, they earned a certificate in "Essential Statistics for Data Analysis using Excel" from Microsoft. In 2020, they completed certifications in "Introduction to Design Control for Medical Devices" from Medical Device HQ and "ISO 13485:2016 - Quality Management Systems for Medical Devices" from Alison. YUAN'slatest certification, obtained in 2022, is in "Design Control in the field of Medical Devices" from TÜV SÜD Akademie.
