Lawrence Chernin

Lawrence Chernin has over 20 years of work experience in various roles and industries. Lawrence currently serves as the Senior Director of Data Science at GoGuardian, where they lead the data science team for Edulastic, an assessment platform for K-12 schools. Prior to this, they held the same position at Edulastic from 2015 to 2021.

Before joining Edulastic, Chernin worked as an Engineering Director at Albeado in 2014 and as a Data Scientist at PeerReach from 2013 to 2014, where they focused on real-time news app data mining and trend analysis. Lawrence also worked as a Data Research Scientist at Disney Interactive from 2011 to 2012, specializing in data mining and customer value modeling for the social gaming division of Disney.

In 2008, Chernin founded their own company, Social Universe, where they served as CEO and handled various responsibilities such as software development, web design, analytics, marketing, and advertising. Lawrence applied machine learning techniques to optimize the website. However, the company closed down in 2011 due to financial viability concerns.

Chernin began their career in the software industry, working as a Software Design Architect at Magma Design Automation from 2007 to 2008 and as a Senior Engineering Manager at Cadence Design Systems from 2005 to 2007. Lawrence also worked as a Principal Engineer at Ammocore from 2001 to 2005, where they supported chip assembly products and conducted feature testing. In addition, they worked as a Staff Engineer at MIPS Technologies from 1998 to 2001.

Throughout their career, Chernin has gained expertise in data science, software development, scripting languages such as Perl and Tcl, machine learning, and team management.

Lawrence Chernin pursued their higher education with dedication and passion. From 1982 to 1987, they attended The University of British Columbia, where they earned their Bachelor of Applied Science (BaSc) degree in Engineering Physics. Lawrence'scommitment to academic excellence did not end there, as they went on to pursue further studies at Harvard University. From 1987 to 1993, Lawrence Chernin dedicated himself to the field of Astronomy, successfully completing their Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree. Through their educational journey, Lawrence Chernin equipped himself with a strong foundation in Engineering Physics before specializing in the fascinating realm of Astronomy.
