Marisa Taylor Karas

Marisa Taylor Karas has a diverse work experience spanning various roles in writing, editing, and reporting. Marisa worked as a Freelance Writer at GoodRx starting in 2022. Prior to that, they were a Freelance Journalist and Editor, where they worked with major media outlets, foundations, and brands such as ACLU Magazine, BBC.com, and Bloomberg Philanthropies.

In 2019, Marisa took a maternity leave while working for herself. Marisa also served as a Managing Editor (contract) at the Mellon Foundation from 2018 to 2019, where they wrote, edited, and commissioned content related to strengthening the contributions of humanities and arts to society.

Earlier in their career, Marisa held roles such as Assistant Editor at Guardian News & Media in 2016, Digital Reporter and Producer at Al Jazeera America from 2013 to 2016, and Contributing Reporter at ABCNews.com in 2012. Marisa also worked as a Contributing Writer and Reporter for msnbc.com from 2011 to 2012, covering business, economics, and advertising for The Bottom Line.

Marisa's experience includes contributing reporter roles at SmartMoney Magazine, where they wrote about investment, consumer products, and technology, and The Wall Street Journal, where they worked as a Special Projects Reporter and a Technology Reporter and Blogger at Digits. In the latter role, they wrote breaking news posts about technology and reviewed gadgets for the column "Worth It?". Marisa'swork on Digits quickly became popular, with one of their posts becoming the most highly-trafficked story on the blog.

Marisa Taylor Karas holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology and Anthropology from Stanford University. Marisa also obtained a Master of Science degree in Journalism from Columbia University - Graduate School of Journalism. In 2018, Marisa completed an intensive audio storytelling course, titled Transom Traveling Workshop, focusing on radio production.
