Cheryl Brown Merriwether has a diverse work experience spanning several industries and roles. Cheryl Brown began their career in 2004 as an HR Manager at Community Coordinated Care for Children, where they worked closely with senior leadership to develop HR goals and ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Cheryl Brown then joined Florida's Blood Centers as the Director of Training and Development, responsible for identifying training needs and overseeing the delivery of training programs.

In 2008, Cheryl joined ICARE International Center for Addiction and Recovery Education as the Vice President and Executive Director. Cheryl Brown played a key role in creating the International Association of Professional Recovery Coaches and ICARE, and in 2019, they were promoted to Executive Director. Alongside this role, they also worked as an instructor at HR Jetpack, providing practical online education and teaching the SHRM Certification Exam prep course.

Cheryl's involvement in the Greater Orlando Society for Human Resource Management (GOSHRM) began in 2018, where they served in various capacities on the board, including Director of Internal Membership and Director of the SHRM Foundation. In 2021, they became the President-elect, and by 2023, they became the Immediate Past President.

Cheryl Brown has also been actively engaged with the Institute of Certified Professional Managers (ICPM) since 2003, serving as a board member and eventually becoming the Past Chairman of the Board of Regents. Additionally, Cheryl has served as a faculty member at both the University of Phoenix and Strayer University, teaching HR and management courses to undergraduate and graduate students.

Cheryl Brown Merriwether has a Master's degree in Human Resources Development and Administration from Barry University, which they obtained from 1999 to 2001. Cheryl Brown also holds a Bachelor's degree in Professional Management from Nova Southeastern University, completed from 1993 to 1995.

In addition to their academic qualifications, Cheryl has several professional certifications. Cheryl Brown is a SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) from the SHRM institution, which they obtained in 2015. Cheryl also holds a Certified Professional Recovery Coach (CPRC) certification from the Recovery Coach Training institution, obtained in 2015. Cheryl Brown is also a Certified Professional Coach (CPC) from the Fowler International Academy of Professional Coaching, achieved in 2014. Cheryl obtained their SPHR certification from the HR Certification Institute - HRCI in 2012. In 2011, they became a Certified Recovery Support Specialist (CRSS) from the FL Certification Board. Cheryl also holds a Certified Manager (CM) certification from the Institute of Certified Professional Managers, obtained in 2000.

Lastly, Cheryl is currently pursuing a certification as a Certified Professional Recovery Coach from the ICARE International Center for Addiction and Recovery Education, with an expected completion date in December 2022.
