Kailey Smisor has a diverse range of work experience. Kailey currently works as a Graduate Student at the University of Plymouth, starting in September 2022. Prior to this, they worked as a Market Research Consultant at Government Business Results, LLC starting in February 2022. In 2020, they were a Research Consultant at The Roddenberry Foundation. Kailey also worked as a Middle School Science Teacher at Sarasota County Schools from September 2020 to August 2022. From 2019 to 2020, Kailey was an Education Specialist at Mote Marine Laboratory & Aquarium, and before that, they were a Coral Health and Disease program intern at the same organization. Kailey gained experience as a Reef Fish Surveys Intern at NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration from June 2018 to May 2019. Kailey's earlier work experience includes being a Student Research Assistant at the Department of Biology from June 2016 to May 2018, where they conducted independent studies and developed manuscripts. Kailey also worked as a Barista at Stirlings Coffee House from August 2014 to May 2018.

Kailey Smisor pursued a Bachelor of Applied Science (BASc) degree in Ecology and Biodiversity at The University of the South from 2014 to 2018. Following this, they enrolled at the University of Plymouth in 2022 to pursue a Master of Science (MS) degree in Marine Conservation, which is expected to be completed in 2023. In addition to their academic achievements, Kailey Smisor also holds certifications as a Rescue Diver from PADI and as a Teacher Of General Science from The Florida Department of Education.
