Dermot Byrne

Dermot Byrne has extensive experience in public sector audit, currently serving as the former Head of Unit for the Internal & EU Audit Unit at the Department of Public Expenditure NDP Delivery & Reform since April 2023. Previously, Dermot has held significant positions including Head of Internal Audit and EU Audit at the Ministry of Public Expenditure and Reform since June 2011, overseeing a shared service audit function for multiple ministries. Dermot's prior roles also include Head of the ERDF Audit Authority and Head of the ERDF Financial Control Unit. With a career beginning as a Senior Auditor at the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General, Dermot holds several qualifications, including a Qualification in Internal Audit Leadership from the Institute of Internal Auditors, an MA in Public Management from the Institute of Public Administration in Dublin, and a CIPFA Professional Accountancy Qualification. Additionally, Dermot is a Chartered Member of the Institute of Internal Auditors.
