Jo Parkinson Bsc Cmiosh (Hons)

Jo Parkinson BSc (Hons) CMIOSH has extensive work experience in the field of health and safety. Jo most recently served as the Director of Health and Safety at Grainger PLC since February 2023. Prior to that, Jo worked at Direct Line Group as a Health and Safety professional from July 2021 to February 2023. Before that, they held the position of Head of Health Safety and Wellbeing at The Co-operative Bank plc from May 2020 to June 2021. Jo also served as the Head of Health and Safety at Great Places Housing Group from June 2017 to May 2020. Jo has further experience as the Group Health, Safety and Environment Manager at General All Purpose Plastics from November 2016 to June 2017. Jo began their career as a Health and Safety Advisor at Places for People, where they worked from April 2010 to November 2016. Jo then moved to Preston's College as a Health and Safety Manager and Insurance Manager from November 2008 to March 2010. Jo's earlier roles include serving as a Hospital Manager at RSPCA from October 2006 to November 2008, and as a Health and Safety Officer at Places for People from April 2004 to October 2006. Jo began their health and safety career at Planet PVC, where they worked as a Group Health and Safety Manager from August 2002 to April 2004.

Jo Parkinson obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Environmental Science from the University of Sunderland, graduating in 1998. Prior to that, they attended St Wilfrid's Church of England High School from 1987 to 1994.

In terms of additional certifications, Jo has obtained various qualifications related to occupational safety and health. These include the NEBOSH Construction Certificate from IOSH in 2016, the NEBOSH National Diploma NVQ Level 6 Full from NEBOSH in 2009, and the NEBOSH National Diploma in Occupational Safety and Health Part 1 from NEBOSH in 2003. Jo also completed the IOSH Managing Safely course in 1998 and the NEBOSH General Certificate in the same year.

Furthermore, Jo has acquired certifications in Face Fit Testing Train the Trainer in 2017, Competent Persons Fire Safety Training from Tyne and Wear Fire Service, Dangerous Goods Safety Advisor from DGSA, and Dementia Champion Trainer from Alzheimer's Society. Jo has also completed training in Evac Chair Training from Van Leeuwen and is a Mental Health First Aider certified by Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) England.

Additionally, Jo has First Aid at Work certifications from various years including 1997, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2008, 2011, and 2014. Jo has plans to pursue an MSc in Health and Wellbeing from Leeds Trinity University in 2021. Other certifications they have attained include NEBOSH Certificate in Fire Safety and Risk Management from NEBOSH, RPII Qualified Playground Inspector from Registered Play Inspectors, RoSPA DSE Assessor's course from The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA), RoSPA Manual Handling Instructor and Risk Assessor from RoSPA, RoSPA Playgrounds Inspector from RoSPA, and Tree Survey and Inspection Course from Lantra.
