James Usherwood

James Usherwood has a wealth of experience in software engineering. James began their career in 1997 as an Accelerated Software Engineer Apprentice at Marconi Electronic Systems, where they were involved in the design, implementation, and testing of computer software for military and commercial systems. In 2001, they became a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Essex, where they were responsible for preparing and teaching third year computer science students laboratories and classes for mobile robots. In 2002, they joined Smiths Aerospace as an Embedded Software Engineer, and in 2003 they moved to Teleca Ltd as an Embedded Software Engineer. In 2004, they joined Honeywell - Automation and Control as an Embedded Software Engineer / Technical Lead. In 2005, they moved to Technisyst as an Embedded Software Engineer, and in 2006 they joined GroundProbe as a Digital Product Development Manager, then Product Development Manager, Software Engineering Manager, Embedded Systems Team Leader, Embedded Software Lead, and Embedded Software Engineer. In 2020, they founded JU Consulting as a Software Engineering Consultant, and in 2022 they joined GreaseBoss as Head of Software.

James Usherwood's education history includes five years at Cornelius Vermuyden School from 1990 to 1995, followed by two years at Basildon College of Further Education from 1997 to 1999, where they obtained a GNVQ in Advanced Information Technology and an HNC in Software Engineering. James then attended the University of Essex from 1999 to 2001, where they obtained a BSc (Hons) in Computer Science (Robotics and Intelligent Machines). Finally, they completed an MSc in Embedded Systems and Robotics at the University of Essex in 2002.
