Greenpeace
Zachary Norris currently serves as the California Climate Director for Greenpeace, a position held since November 2023. Prior to this role, Norris was a Soros Equality Fellow at Open Society Foundations from March 2022 to November 2023, where efforts focused on addressing family separation in communities of color through various publications. As the former executive director of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights from August 2013 to February 2022, Norris authored "Defund Fear: Safety Without Policing, Prisons, and Punishment" and led initiatives aimed at criminal justice reform. Additional experience includes co-directing Justice for Families, advocating for the rights of families impacted by the juvenile justice system from July 2010 to July 2013, and previously directing the “Books Not Bars” program at the Ella Baker Center. Norris holds a JD from New York University School of Law and dual BA degrees in Comparative Literature and Literature from Harvard University.
