Robert Ellis has a diverse work experience spanning multiple industries. Robert is currently employed as the Corporate Counsel at Greenskies Clean Focus, starting in October 2022. Prior to this, they worked as an Outside General Counsel as a consultant since July 2013, providing legal services primarily to companies in the renewable or energy efficiency business. Representative clients included Off-Grid Electric Ltd., Greenpeak Solar LLC, and SolBid, Inc.
Earlier in their career, Robert served as the General Counsel and Vice-President at Ridgeline Energy LLC - Veolia SA, where they played an integral role in negotiating various agreements and financing wind energy projects. Robert also reviewed and approved all company legal agreements and managed outside counsel. Robert facilitated the sale of Ridgeline to Veolia, S.A. before leaving in May 2013.
Robert gained experience in the transportation industry, serving as a Mate at Coastal Transportation Inc. from 1998 to 2002. Robert also held roles as Captain and Chief Mate at Western Pioneer from 1994 to 2002, and as a Mate at Icicle Seafoods from 1996 to 1998.
Before transitioning into the private sector, Robert worked as a Special Agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation from 1992 to 1993.
Robert began their legal career as an Attorney at Duane Morris LLP in 1988, where they handled litigation and marine insurance issues. Robert also provided legal services related to insurance fraud, marine pollution, regulation, and collision. Robert remained with the San Francisco-based law firm until 1992.
Prior to entering the legal field, Robert served in the United States Navy from 1979 to 1985. As a Lieutenant, they held various officer roles on Navy warships in the Western Pacific and Indian Oceans. Robert supervised crew members, administered ship repair contracts, and coordinated Navy and civilian personnel.
In addition to their legal experience, Robert also worked as a Law Clerk at Holman, Fenwick and Willan in 1987.
Robert Ellis has a JD degree from the University of California, Davis - School of Law, which they obtained from 1985 to 1988. Prior to that, they completed their BA in Society and Justice with significant coursework in engineering, mathematics, and physics from the University of Washington, where they studied from 1975 to 1979.
In terms of additional certifications, Robert Ellis obtained various qualifications related to marine firefighting, radar systems, electronic charts, global marine communications, and seaman operations. Robert received these certifications from institutions such as the Maritime Institute of Technology & Graduate Studies and the United States Coast Guard. The certifications were obtained between 1985 and 2010, with the most recent certification being Advanced Marine Firefighting in May 2010.
