Program Manager - Metro Detroit Area

Job description

For this position, the candidate we are looking for must live in the Detroit metropolitan area and be willing to travel locally and throughout southern Michigan to represent GS Engineering at key events within the Defense community.

The Program Manager is responsible for overseeing a portfolio or collection of projects across multiple clients with significant client interaction and ownership. As the main client POC, this role is responsible for all cost, technical, and quality aspects of project execution from proposal development through project closeout, and manages personnel resources to ensure completion to project scope, timing, quality, and budget. The Program Manager performs a significant business development function with focus from top of the funnel prospecting through successful project closure.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Program Manager is responsible for the following tasks, and others as requested:

  • Manages a portfolio of clients and key client decision makers; maintains / grows current portfolio of business where possible; serves as the primary client POC, where appropriate;

    • Performs business development tasks including top of the funnel client research and prospecting, development of client trust, proposal development and project capture;
    • Engages and is familiar with industries, clients and/or technologies that align with strategic growth targets;
    • Represents GS Engineering at industry events (in person and virtually) such as trade shows, industry seminars and industry days;
  • May occasionally manage the technical execution of projects and serve as a project manager;

  • May perform role of subject matter expert (SME) in technical areas that align with past experience;

  • Performs supervisory functions including performance reviews and day-to-day management tasks (timecards, etc.) for direct reports;

  • Participates in the support and continual improvement of GS Engineering’s Quality Management System and ITAR/EAR compliance regimen.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

    • Technical: Responsible for developing and overseeing adherence to contractual scope of projects.
      • Cost: Responsible for management of client portfolio and annual sales targets.

      • Quality: Oversees work of multiple project teams to ensure client expectations are consistently met.

QUALIFICATIONS / ATTRIBUTES:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related technical field required, or equivalent combination of experience, education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities;
  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in project management, business development, or portfolio management in a technical services field;
  • Ability to handle ambiguity and open design environments with competing requirements;
  • Must demonstrate superior professional communication skills, organization, self-motivation, and attention to detail;
  • U.S. citizen or lawful permanent resident able to obtain a security clearance from the Department of Defense upon hiring.
