Ahmed M. Al-Darbas

VP for Professional Development & Community Services at Gulf University for Science and Technology

Dr. Ahmed M. Al-Darbas joined GUST in 2015 as an instructor of law, and is now serving as the Vice President for Professional Development & Community Services. Dr. Al-Darbas earned his Ph.D. in Law from University of London in 2017, and complimentary to his new role, he teaches undergraduate courses in different topics, such as Introduction to Business Law and Ethics. His teaching interests also cover the legal development of the legal systems in the Arab world, human rights in the Gulf, Intellectual Property Regulation in Kuwait, Foreign Real Estate Ownership in GCC Countries, and Foreign Direct Investment in Kuwait.

In addition to his academic role, Dr. Al-Darbas is involved with several University committees such as the Student Affairs Committee, the Curriculum Committee, the Social Committee, among many others. He is focused on expanding his research in Legal Protection of Foreign Direct Investment, Commercial and Residential Real Estate Regulation, Capital Market Regulation, Mortgage Law, Company Law, Corporate governance regulation in Arabian Peninsula, and Corporate finance rules & regulations.

Gulf University for Science and Technology

Gulf University for Science and Technology (GUST) was established in 2002 as the first private university in Kuwait, and has set itself apart by attaining five international accreditations for its colleges and programs. GUST also houses a One Stop Student Advising Center, center for professional advancement, comprehensive library, Global Studies Center, and the Gulf Financial Center. It offers six different scholarships and has partnerships with 13 different universities worldwide. In 2017, GUST was ranked 49th among almost 1000 universities in the Arab world by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) University Rankings, and was the only private university from Kuwait to make the list. GUST continues to focus on moving forward and developing its programs and research output for the benefit of its students, faculty, and community.
