Vp, Customer Infrastructure at GXO

Tom James has a diverse work experience spanning over several companies and roles. Tom started their career in the US Navy as a Combat Information Center Supervisor from 1979 to 1983. Tom then worked at Hanesbrands Inc., formerly known as Sara Lee Direct Information Systems, in various positions from 1987 to 1993.

In 1993, Tom joined Lowe's, where they held several leadership roles including Director of IT Support Center, Director of Merchandising Business Systems, Director of IT Solutions Delivery - Supply Chain, Director of IT Engineering, Vice President of IT Solutions Delivery, and Vice President of IT Operations. During their tenure at Lowe's, they were responsible for strategic vision and leadership, IT service availability, disaster recovery capabilities, application development, and IT/business alignment.

After leaving Lowe's in 2011, Tom joined New Breed Logistics as the Vice President of IT Infrastructure and Security until 2015. Tom then moved to XPO Logistics - Supply Chain where they held various roles such as Vice President of IT Infrastructure, Vice President of Supply Chain IT Infrastructure Services, and Vice President of IT Infrastructure and Security. In these positions, they led teams responsible for infrastructure design and implementation, IT service management, and IT security operations.

Most recently, Tom joined GXO Logistics, Inc. in 2021 as the Vice President of Customer Infrastructure. In this role, they are accountable for global site IT infrastructure standards, warehouse IT infrastructure projects, major incident management, and IT service delivery.

Throughout their career, Tom has demonstrated expertise in IT infrastructure, operations, security, and service management, and has consistently delivered high-quality results in their leadership positions.

Tom James attended UNC Kenan-Flagler Business School in 2011, where they completed the Strategic Leadership Development Program. Before that, they obtained a BSBA degree in Information Systems and Management from Appalachian State University, graduating in 1987. In 1984, they earned an AA degree in Liberal Arts from Surry Community College. Tom James has also obtained certifications in ISO/IEC 27001 Foundation and ITIL V3 Foundation for Service Management.
