General Summary:

This position reports to the R&D Team Leader or their designee, and is based in Banbury, UK. The candidate will be responsible for designing mechanical components and assemblies to support the R&D, Sub Assembly and Show Car departments. This will be a very rewarding role for the right person as they will have the opportunity to work closely with several departments working from initial concept to hands on with the final components.

 General Responsibilities:

  • Promote teamwork and effective communications to develop working relationships between all personnel and departments.
  • Works under direction of the R&D Team Leader designing a variety of components to support R&D rig testing, Sub Assembly tooling and Show Car build.
  • Responsible for all steps in the design process from initial study to assembled components. This includes solid modelling, 2D drawing, QC sign off, generation of assembly drawings and assisting technicians in component build.
  • Responsible for the generation of CAD models to support surface scanning and 3D inspection of parts and assemblies.
  • Assumes any responsibilities and duties delegated by the R&D Team Leader or their designee.
  • Responsibility for the cleanliness and condition of your work area.
  • Follow all safety regulations in all venues.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Work with the R&D Team Leader, Race Team Support Manager and Head of Performance Engineering to understand new component requirements.
  • Design components and assemblies ensuring the requirements of each project are met in a time and cost-efficient manner.
  • Model components, produce 2D drawings and release components to production following Haas Design Office processes and methodology.
  • When required work with Inspection to model proprietary parts to support the digital assembly process.
  • Provide guidance in the event of an NCR being raised against any parts drawn.

Education and Work Experience:

  • University Degree preferred in Mechanical Engineering.

  • Preferred 2 years’ design experience in a professional motorsports environment or other low volume high precision industry.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with an ability to build productive relationships

  • Capable of working in a team environment to a very high standard and a positive work attitude.

  • A sympathetic approach and a willingness to help others is essential.

  • Experience in metallic component and assembly design is essential.

  • Good understanding of manufacturing methods and limitations for metallic and RP components.

  • Good understanding of materials is required.

  • Good understanding of geometric tolerancing and fits.

  • Ability to read and accurately interpret technical drawings

Equipment and Applications:

  • Good working knowledge of Catia V5 / 3DX is essential.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft office products especially Excel.
  • Knowledge of assorted precision gauges and micrometers, various hand tools.
  • Ability to follow complex regulations related to shipment of materials and facility maintenance requirements.

Work Environment Physical Demands:

An ability to work and prioritize within a high pressure, time sensitive environment while retaining a methodical approach is essential. The role may require occasional domestic & international travel and a willingness to work long and flexible hours including weekends.

This position may require lifting to 50 pounds, repeated bending, squatting and manual dexterity. Fast- paced work environment requiring heavy mental demands. Work environment includes machinery, race cars, 7-post and other rigs, grinding debris, and hazardous fluids. All employees must ensure compliance with the Company Health and Safety Policy, and all relevant other statutory Health and Safety legislation.
