Achim Kaufhold

Chief Medical Officer at Hansa Medical

Achim Kaufhold has extensive work experience in the pharmaceutical and biotech industry. Achim began their career in various universities, specializing in pediatrics, medical microbiology, infectious diseases, and laboratory medicine from 1984 to 1994. Achim then joined SmithKline Beecham (now GlaxoSmithKline) as the Head of the Pediatric Vaccine Development Unit from 1994 to 2001. Achim went on to work at Berna Biotech (now Johnson & Johnson) as the Chief Medical Officer and Head of Research, Product and Business Development from 2001 to 2005. Achim then joined Chiron (acquired by Novartis) as the Chief Medical Officer and Vice President of Development in 2005, and later served as the Chief Scientific Officer and Chief Medical Officer at Pharmexa A/S from 2007 to 2008. Achim then became the Chief Executive Officer at Affitech (merged with Pharmexa A/S) in 2008. Achim continued their career at Basilea Pharmaceutica as the Chief Medical Officer from 2010 to 2017. Currently, they hold the position of Chief Medical Officer at Hansa Biopharma since June 2020.

Achim Kaufhold has completed an executive development program in finance and accounting at The Wharton School in Philadelphia. They also hold a degree as a professor of medical microbiology and infectious diseases from the University of Aachen in Germany. Additionally, Achim Kaufhold has earned a Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree from the University of Cologne in Germany.
