Tom Ruginis has a long and varied work experience. In 1999, they began as a Medical Assistant at Edward Hospital, where they managed a variety of processes and tasks. In 2004, they began as a Research Specialist/PhD Student at the University of Illinois at Chicago, where they learned cell and molecular biology research. In 2008, they were a Market Research Intern at Relevation Research. In 2009, they were a Laboratory Consultant & Marketing Specialist at MIDSCI, providing consultative services to scientists and marketing via social media. In 2010, they began working as a Freelance Consultant - Life Science Consumer Research & Social Media. In 2012, they became the Creative Director at Ruugy Media and the Founder and CEO at HappiLabs.org, a small business that provides tools and services to research labs.

Tom Ruginis attended Benedictine University from 1999 to 2003, where they earned a Bachelor of Science in Molecular Biology. Tom then attended the University of Illinois Chicago from 2004 to 2008, studying Pharmacology, but left without a degree.
