Ian Prest has extensive work experience in software engineering. Ian is currently a Senior Software Engineer at HaptX Inc., starting in 2023. Previously, they worked at Microsoft from 2016 to 2023, where they were also a Senior Software Engineer. At Microsoft, they implemented features and fixed bugs in Legacy EdgeHTML/Spartan, and transitioned to the new Microsoft Edge browser based on open-source Chromium. Ian worked with both external and internal engineers in both upstream and downstream codebases.

Before their time at Microsoft, Ian worked at Corel Corporation from 2002 to 2016 as a Senior Software Developer. Ian played a role in all stages of development and provided technical leadership for products such as CorelDRAW Graphics Suite and Corel DESIGNER Technical Suite. Ian also worked on numerous service packs and patches.

From 2011 to 2016, Ian was a Web Developer at keyboard-layout-editor.com, where they created a single-page web-app for prototyping keyboard layouts and keycap sets. This project is open sourced on GitHub.

Ian's earlier experience includes working as a Software Developer at R.A.C.E. (Racing Association Canadian Events) from 2001 to 2002, and as a SDE Intern at Microsoft from 1998 to 2000. During their internships, they worked on the Visual Basic Compiler team and the Windows Kernel team, implementing bug fixes, semantic analysis features, and low-level changes to the Object Manager subsystem.

Ian Prest completed their Bachelor of Mathematics degree in Computer Science from the University of Waterloo, where they studied from 1996 to 2001.
