Sharmi Surianarain has a diverse work experience spanning different organizations and roles. Sharmi started their career as a Development Associate at The Learning Project from 2001 to 2004. Sharmi then worked as a Research Associate at Pratham Mumbai Education Initiative from 2004 to 2005. Sharmi then joined the Kellogg School of Management as a Research Assistant from 2005 to 2007.
In 2007, they joined Resolve Workplace Solutions as a Consultant and later became a Manager until 2011. Sharmi then moved to Resolve Consulting as an Associate Director from 2011 to 2012. Sharmi also had an extensive tenure at African Leadership Academy, where they served in various positions, including Vice President of Lifelong Engagement from 2012 to 2018, Director of Lifelong Engagement from 2014 to 2016, and Director of Global Partnerships from 2012 to 2014.
From 2018 to 2021, Sharmi worked at Harambee Youth Employment Accelerator, initially as a Solutions Design Executive and later as the Chief Impact Officer. Currently, they are the Founder and Executive Director of Making Caring Count, a role they assumed in 2021. Overall, Sharmi's work experience showcases expertise in leadership, consulting, research, and strategic partnerships.
Sharmi Surianarain earned a B.A. in Linguistics from Harvard University from 1997 to 2001. Sharmi then pursued an Ed.M. in International Education Policy from Harvard Graduate School of Education from 2003 to 2004. Sharmi completed their education at Northwestern University - Kellogg School of Management, obtaining an M.S. in Management & Organisations from 2005 to 2007.
