Position: Co-Op (Assistant Project Engineer)

Division: Environmental Systems 

Location(s): Multiple positions in Charlotte, NC; Greenville, SC; Charleston, SC; Conway, SC; Raleigh, NC

FLSA Classification: Hourly, Non-Exempt

Summary/Objective: Project and Field Management work collectively and collaboratively with Owners, Design Professionals, Trade Partners, and authorities having jurisdiction in order to build a successful, quality project on schedule in a safe work environment while earning a fair and reasonable profit.

Essential Functions:  

  • Assist Project Manager and Superintendent on one or multiple projects.

  • Assist and uphold safety expectations and requirements.

  • Observe the critical field decision-making process and learn where to get assistance.

  • Assist and learn to oversee the project to ensure timely and appropriate decisions.

  • Assist and observe project activities such as sequencing, scheduling, procurement, logistics, quality control, and staffing.

  • Assist with preconstruction deliverables and estimates as needed.

  • Leverage project management software (Procore).

  • Assist with project start-up activities.

  • Assist with project reporting and documentation.

  • Assist with the coordination of trade partners.

  • Assist with QA/QC.

  • Assist with all inspections.

  • Assist with project Close-Out procedures.

  • Ability to develop relationships and build trust.

  • Ability to communicate with project team members, such as Trade Partners, Design Professionals, Utility Reps, Code Officials, etc.

  • Understanding of construction plans and project specifications.

  • Ability to understand construction means and methods for some scopes of work.

  • Assist in coordination meetings with Trade Partners, Owner, Design Professionals, etc.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • Strong team player with a high level of professionalism and initiative.

  • Exceptional listening skills.

  • Detail-oriented.

  • Ability to resolve conflicts.

  • Timely and accurate follow-through.

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.

  • Valid state-issued license, a satisfactory motor vehicle record, safe driving behavior, and adherence to our company Driving Policy.

Education and Experience: 

  • Enrolled in a degree program in related engineering discipline required.

  • Experience in project management, engineering systems design, or another related field is a plus.

  • Management experience leading multidisciplinary design teams is a plus.

  • Experience with Harper may be a plus.

Supervisory Responsibilities: None.

Work Environment: Typical office hours. Hours may vary depending on demand. 80% Sitting, 20% Standing or Walking. 

Physical Demands:

  • Requires work in a variety of conditions relative to construction job site environments and must be able to perform the physical requirements of the job, as assigned.

  • Weather and climate conditions will vary throughout the progress of a project. Must be able to inspect all ongoing construction activities over the duration of the assigned project.

  • Requires walking over varied terrain, climbing, stooping, bending and lifting. Lifting requirements vary from minimal to heavy loads.

  • Inspection for quality, consistency, and completeness of work frequently requires climbing ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.

Travel Required: Travel to/from multiple job sites, projects, and offices. Possible overnight or weekend travel on rare occasions.
