Gunnar Riise has a solid work experience in the maritime industry. Gunnar started their career in 2003 with Boskalis, where they worked as a 3rd Officer and DPO until 2006. Gunnar then moved to Østensjø Rederi AS and served as a 2nd Officer and DPO on MV Edda Fjord for three years, gaining experience in offshore construction, ROV, umbilical lay, and XT installations in the US Gulf, North Sea, and West coast of Africa. In 2009, Gunnar joined HAVILA SHIPPING ASA as a Chief Officer, and later took on the role of 2nd Officer and Senior DPO on MV Havila Phoenix. During their time at HAVILA SHIPPING ASA, they worked on offshore construction projects involving saturation and surface diving, ROV operations, crane operations, umbilica & cable laying, and trenching in various locations such as the Bay of Campeche in Mexico and the North Sea.

Gunnar Riise's education history begins in 1998 when they attended Bergen Maritime Videregående Skole. Gunnar pursued a degree in Master Mariner, although the field of study is unspecified. This period lasted until 2000.

In terms of additional certifications, Gunnar Riise obtained a DP operator certificate from The Nautical Institute in November 2004. Gunnar also completed a GOC/GMDSS General operators certificate in January 2010 from Telenor Maritim Radio. Furthermore, they acquired a Ship security officer - SSO certification from Seagull AS in June 2010. Later, in March 2010, Gunnar Riise completed a STCW95 VI/2-1 VI/2-3 VI-4-2 course for Navigator Officers through Nosefo.

Continuing with their certifications, in November 2010, they received training in Helicopter underwater escape from Nosefo. Gunnar Riise also obtained a Deck officer class 1, Master Mariner certification from Sjøfartsdirektoratet in August 2012, and a Health Certificate from the same institution in September 2012. Lastly, in January 2013, they became a Helicopter landing officer certified by Nosefo.
