Thomas Obersteiner

Thomas Obersteiner serves as the Senior Vice President, General Counsel for HBC, LP. In this role, Thomas works in conjunction with the Executive Leadership team to provide sage legal counsel, ensuring HBC is legally compliant with national and international frameworks. Thomas contributes extensive experience as an international business lawyer specializing in M&A, litigation and arbitration, along with a special focus on antitrust and competition law.

Prior to this appointment, Thomas was a Senior Associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher LLP, where he regularly advised clients on the legal nuances of strategic M&A deals. During his time at Willkie, Thomas engaged with HBC across multiple projects, sharpening his legal expertise in the fields of retail, real estate, and technology. Thomas began his legal career at Baker McKenzie, where he held roles across the firm’s European offices, practicing commercial and competition law, as well as dispute resolution.

While at Columbia Law School, Thomas served as the Graduate Editor of the American Review of International Arbitration; and as a board member for the Columbia Antitrust Law and Economics Association (CALEA). He received his LLM from Columbia University, and a master’s degree in law from University of Vienna.

Thomas is fluent in German, proficient in Spanish, and has been published in leading publications. He is a member of the American Bar Association and the New York Bar Association.
