Douglas S. Wignall

Doug has devoted his career to HDR, from his first job as an intern architect in 1991 to his current role as architecture group president. His commitment to design excellence has created a culture where collaboration across disciplines and passion for innovation collide to advance our design profile. He championed the evolution of non-traditional design and consulting services to keep pace with the challenging and diverse architectural field, and under his leadership, we have expanded into Canada, the Middle East, China, Germany and Australia.

Before being tapped to lead HDR's architecture practice, Doug was the global director of our Healthcare program, growing it into the number one healthcare design practice in the world, a position we have held for 14 consecutive years. He was also instrumental in fostering collaborations with premier manufacturers to design furniture, flooring and fabric products targeted primarily to the healthcare environment. Two of our collaborations have won prestigious Best of the Year awards from Interior Design magazine.

Doug attended the University of Nebraska-Lincoln earning both a Bachelor and a Master of Architecture. He is a registered architect, is a member of both the National Council of Architectural Registration Board and the American Institute of Architects, and has received his LEED AP certification as well.
